Pinoy-Style Nachos Recipe

In my experience, you can’t ever go wrong with nachos. It’s not the typical everyday Filipino snack as it is a Mexican dish originated from northern Mexico but it’s delicious flavors and filling ingredients managed to capture every Filipino’s admiration as if it’s one of the many homemade Filipino recipes. It got the perfect balance of ground meat, perfectly cooked vegetables, and generous amounts of cheese toppings.

Nachos are one of my favorite go-to snacks at local cafes whenever I’m hanging out with friends, taking a break, or doing some projects in my college days. Of course, not every nachos by cafes are created equal but these establishments can never go wrong with a serving of nachos. I have fond memories in one of these cafes eating nachos while telling stories with my friends.

Nothing screams fun more than a plate of nachos stacked up with its plentiful grounded meat and topping of vegetables and cheese. It’s so much better and filling than all the ordinary chips that you can get in the store. Plus, with a mixture of chopped vegetables (or fruits) like tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, and olives, you can get a hint of valuable nutrients from consuming nachos.

Every bite of a piece of nachos with a topping of its savory ground meat, refreshing tomatoes and cucumber, and the grated cheese on top was heaven to me. The entire combination of the ingredients creates the perfect balance. The grounded pork wasn’t overwhelming because of the freshness and acidity brought on by the tomatoes and cucumber.

The crunch of the nachos, which I think makes the entire dish so iconic, gives a satisfying feeling along with the flavors with every bite.

It’s actually been quite a while since I’ve got to eat this delicious Mexican dish and I started to crave some when I came across it in some social media post. There weren’t any nachos at the cafes that I frequented around the new area that I lived in so I got inspired to make one at home.

Of course, I searched through Pinterest for the best recipe that’s also easy on the pockets. I currently don’t own an oven so that could be an ordeal with making the delicious nachos with the melted cheese on top.

So specifically searched simple nacho recipes that I could make at home without an oven and came across a nachos recipe called Easy-Pinoy Style Nachos Recipe. It’s the perfect non-oven nachos recipe that anyone can do at home. I was over the moon with this recipe when I followed it and the results were delicious.

It’s not the most high-end nachos recipe out there as it is quite budget-friendly but you can pick and substitute the ingredients to make it more delicious like adding some olives to the mix or getting melting the cheese first then adding on top. But at this point, I was quite happy with the recipe I found.

Anyone can follow this nachos recipe and even college students can make this at their boarding house, provided that they have a stove to cook on. The ingredients aren’t the traditional Mexican dish that we can find in the cafes but the ones used in this recipe are perfect to dazzle the Filipino palate.

I actually got to make this recipe several times and served it to friends with bigger portions. All we’ll need are some simple ingredients we can easily find in the market which are ½ kilo of ground pork, 1 piece of cucumber that should be cut into tidbits, 1 small pouch of cheese spread, 1 small pouch of mayonnaise, 300 grams of lettuce or cabbage that we need to cut into small pieces, 1 garlic, 1 onion, and salt.

Of course, we can’t forget the nachos. Make sure to buy corn nachos instead of the ones made from flour for this particular recipe as the nutty sweetness of the corn makes for the perfect foil for all its delicious toppings.

Now for the easy to follow cooking process. First, we need to sautee the garlic, onion, and ground pork. Season with salt according to taste and set aside.

Then in a serving plate, spread the nachos and put the chopped tomatoes, cucumber, and lettuce/cabbage on top. Add the sauteed ground pork and finally spread with the mayo and cheese. To make it more delicious, top everything off with grated cheese.
